When to use it

Before you build, to find out whether the problem is real and how often it bites. The question that matters isn't «would you use it» — everybody says yes — but «how do you solve it today»: if the answer is «I don't», it doesn't hurt enough.

Three things that help

  • Never ask «would you buy it»: stated intent predicts nothing. Ask what they do today and what it costs them.
  • Price ranges are there to find where willingness stops, not to set your price list.
  • Email last, tied to a concrete promise («try it first»): that's the only reason it's worth leaving.
